Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our organic soil amendments, biochar technology, application methods, and ordering.
Biochar & Pyrolysis Basics
What is Biochar, and how is it made?
Biochar is a highly stable, carbon-rich porous material produced through pyrolysis—the thermal decomposition of biomass in an oxygen-limited environment. Unlike charcoal, it is engineered specifically for soil health, water retention, and microbial habitat creation.
What is the difference between Raw Biochar and “Charged” Biochar?
Raw biochar acts like a dry sponge. If applied directly to soil without nutrients, it can temporarily absorb nearby moisture and nutrients. “Charged” (or activated) biochar is pre-loaded with organic matter, compost, or beneficial microbes so it delivers nutrients to plant roots from day one. (Our Biochar Green comes pre-charged and ready to use).
How long does Biochar last in the soil?
Unlike organic fertilizers that break down within months, biochar’s carbon structure remains stable in the soil for hundreds of years. It serves as a permanent infrastructure upgrade for your soil.
What biomass feedstock is used to manufacture Growme Biochar?
We use sustainably sourced, high-lignin hard wood biomass. Processing this raw feedstock via controlled pyrolysis ensures a high fixed carbon content, low ash residue, and maximum structural durability in the soil.
Application & Crop Usage
Can I over-apply Biochar or Organic Manure?
Pure biochar is inert and will not burn roots even at higher rates. However, sticking to recommended dosage rates ensures optimal cost efficiency. For FOM and Vermicompost, standard organic application guidelines apply. Check our Growing Guides page for exact crop-wise tables.
Is Biochar suitable for drip irrigation systems or clay soil?
Yes! In heavy clay soil, biochar improves aeration and drainage by breaking up compaction. In sandy soil, it dramatically increases water and nutrient holding capacity. For drip systems, fine-particle biochar or pre-soil incorporation works best.
Product Comparison & Selection
Which product should I choose: Pure Biochar, Biochar Green, or FOM?
Pure Biochar: Best for long-term soil structure improvement, custom charging/mixing, or industrial/carbon applications.
Biochar Green: Best for immediate direct-to-soil application for crops, orchards, and gardens (pre-charged with nutrients).
FOM / Vermicompost: Best for quick seasonal nutrient supply and active microbial inoculation.
Bulk Orders, Packaging & B2B Supply
Do you offer bulk supply for commercial farms, tea estates, or industrial buyers?
Yes. We supply in standard retail bags (2 kg, 5 kg) as well as bulk bags (50 kg bags) for commercial agricultural projects and corporate partners.
Can you provide custom biochar blends for specific crop requirements?
Absolutely. We can customize the particle size, moisture content, and nutrient-charging ratios based on your specific soil test report or target crop.
Quality, Testing & Certifications
Do you provide organic carbon and lab test reports?
Yes, every now and then batches undergo laboratory testing for fixed carbon percentage, surface area, pH, and heavy metal limits. You can view or request lab reports in our Resources Centre.
